Website design FAQ
Questions to ask a web designer, answered.
The questions every buyer should ask before paying for a website, answered straight, with the numbers in. If yours is not here, email us and we reply within a working day.
Owning it
What do I actually own?
Everything. The domain sits in your Cloudflare account, the code in your GitHub, the CMS in your Sanity account, and the Google Business Profile and analytics in your Google account. A shop’s Shopify store is in your name too. We are added as a collaborator to build, and you can remove us whenever you like. The site keeps working either way.
What if I want a different developer later?
That is what the build is made for. You hold every account, Sanity lets you edit the words yourself, and behind it the files are kept in order and the reasoning is commented into the code, so any competent developer can pick it up without having to ask us anything.
Do you use WordPress?
No. We build on Astro, a modern framework that ships fast, static pages. There are no plugins to patch, no security updates to babysit, and no maintenance fee for keeping the lights on. You edit your content through Sanity, a clean CMS in your own account.
Who actually does the work?
Onlineify does, directly. The build is not outsourced and it is not passed down a chain of suppliers. One inbox handles the build and everything after it, and nothing about your site gets farmed out to a third party.
Prices and paying
How much does a website cost?
With us, a fixed price you can read before you speak to anyone. A local business site is £1,950 for Lite, £3,950 for Business or £5,250 for Plus, ex VAT. An online shop is £5,500 for Set range or £6,950 for Open range, ex VAT. Across the market the honest answer is a wide range, and our guide to what a website costs sets ours against it.
Why are your prices published?
Because Onlineify is a product, not a quote. Fixed tiers with fixed scope, a menu of add-ons with fixed prices, and nothing negotiated behind closed doors. You can see the full cost of your build before you ever speak to us.
How does paying work?
A £250 deposit holds your build slot. It includes VAT and comes off your total rather than sitting on top of it; every other price on this site is shown ex VAT. After the kickoff call you either settle the balance in full, or split it in half: half then, half before launch. The total is the same either way, and there is no discount for choosing one over the other, because the published price is the price.
The build
How long does it take to build a website?
Two to four weeks depending on tier, following a fixed sequence: kickoff, foundations, build, review, launch. The slot is booked in advance, so the dates are known before you pay anything.
Do you build online shops?
Yes. The shop is designed and built for your range, and Shopify runs the checkout, the payments and the stock behind it, in a Shopify account in your name. You pay Shopify directly for its plan and its card fees. We take no commission on your sales, ever.
I already have a website. Can you move it?
Yes. Migration from an existing site is a published add-on from £250 ex VAT. The words, images and posts worth keeping come across, and every page Google already knows is redirected to its new home, so the rankings you have built survive the move. The redesign itself is what the build is.
What if I need something that is not on the menu?
Harder jobs, such as a booking system wired to your till, a members area or an integration with software you already run, are priced as a named line before you pay for anything. A very large catalogue is reviewed by hand rather than priced automatically. Work that is not a website, such as a full brand identity or custom software, we refer out to someone who does it well rather than improvise on your money.
After launch
Is there anything to pay after launch?
One thing is guaranteed: your domain renewal, paid at cost to the registrar, in your name. Hosting runs on Cloudflare’s free tier and the CMS on Sanity’s, both in your own accounts, and there is no Onlineify subscription. A shop also pays Shopify for its plan. Everything else is optional: self manage for free with pay as you go help when you want it, or pick a monthly continuation plan for care, SEO or email from £59 a month ex VAT. You can switch or cancel any time, and leaving never breaks the site.
What support comes with the build?
A support window from launch: 30 days on Lite, 90 on Business and 120 on Plus, and 90 days on every online shop. After that you are covered by a continuation plan if you choose one, or pay as you go edits with published prices if you self manage.
Still deciding? See how the build runs, check the pricing, or ask us directly. Wondering how our prices compare? What a website costs sets them against what the rest of the market charges.
